Taking a ride on the Wonder Wheel means taking a ride back in time — and that’s exactly what controversial filmmaker Woody Allen had in mind when drawing up the upcoming film, “Wonder Wheel.”

A movie poster for the film, based on Coney Island’s iconic ferris wheel, was unveiled this week by Amazon Studios. The poster features a photo of Kate Winslet underneath a window with the Wonder Wheel visible in the distance.

According to the film’s website, “Wonder Wheel” follows four characters as they navigate life in Coney Island during the 1950s. Kate Winslet stars as Ginny, an emotional former actress who becomes a waitress, while Justin Timberlake stars as Mickey, a young lifeguard who hopes to someday become a playwright. Juno Temple plays Carolina, a woman who spends time hiding from gangsters, and Jim Belushi stars as ride operator Humpty, who is Ginny’s husband.

Some local storefronts in Coney Island were transformed to fit the 1950s-based scenes when filming took place last fall (see photo below and at the top).

The film is set to be featured as the closing night film at the New York Film Festival on October 14. It is scheduled to be released by Amazon Studios Dec. 1, according to Variety.
