The American Cancer Society is holding a “Making Strides of Brooklyn” breast cancer walk in Coney Island on Sunday, Oct. 15.

Walkers will meet their respective teams at MCU Park and travel along the boardwalk and Surf Ave. (see map below) between Coney Island and Brighton Beach. A representative from the society said at a Community Board 13 meeting on Sept. 27 that there are expected to be tens of thousands of people and the goal is to raise $1 million.

Regardless of whether or not you plan on attending, be aware that Surf Ave. will be closed on the day of the event.

Check-in opens at 8:30 but survivors and caregivers are slated to check in at 9:30 a.m.

Registration can be completed online or on-site. Those who register online will receive an e-mail with a check-in ID, which should be printed out and presented to the check-in tent on the day of the event. Those who wish to register on the day of the event can do so by completing a paper registration form at the check-in area.

The walk is slated to begin at 10 a.m. Walkers are by no means required to complete the entire walk. Water stations will be available along the route (see the map above)

Entertainment is also on the agenda, but those details have yet to be finalized.
