Coney Island this weekend: Music for Puerto Rico, carnival, creek cleanup, & more

Looking for something to do in Coney Island this weekend? We’ve got you covered with the full slate of activities below.

Benefit Concert for Puerto Rico

When: Saturday at 2 p.m.

Where: Steeplechase Beer Garden

A benefit concert will be held at the Steeplechase Beer Garden on Oct. 14 to raise money for hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. More than a dozen people are listed on the lineup for the event, which will include music sets, performances, and special guests. Click here for details.

PS 100 Carnival

When: Saturday at 11 a.m.

Where: Ps 100 The Coney Island School 2951 W 3rd St, Brooklyn, New York 11229

The Kings Bay Y is presenting the annual PS 100 Carnival, which will feature rides, arts and crafts, face painting, and more family-friendly activities. There will be discounts for summer camps, as well — but that’s not all. Get this: a pony will be there. For more information, click here.

Coney Island Beach Cleanup

When: Saturday at 2 p.m.

Where: Kaiser Park

The New York State Marine Education Association (NYSMEA) will be hosting a “Coastal Cleanup Day” at Kaiser Park on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family-friendly cleanup will allow participants to learn about Coney Island Creek and help remove litter along the shore. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

When: Sunday at 10 a.m.

Where: Coney Island Boardwalk

Thousands of people are expected to attend this breast cancer awareness walk in Coney Island on Sunday morning. Check-in opens at 8:30 and the walk is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. For more information, including a map of the route, click here.

Cosmos Soccer

When: 7 p.m. Sunday

Where: MCU Park

The Cosmos will return home on Saturday to host FC Edmonton at MCU Park. The Cosmos, who have not lost since Sept 23, will play their final “home” game of the season. Their schedule wraps up with two games on the road in Puerto Rico and Jacksonville before concluding the season with an “away” game against Puerto Rico FC at MCU Park.

Sunday football drink specials

When: Sunday at 12:15 p.m.

Where: 1904 Surf Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11224

Gear up for Sunday football with The Coney Island Brewery’s beer specials. The brewery will offer $4 off select fills on Sunday beginning at 12:15 p.m. and the special will last until 7:15 p.m.

Coney Island Museum

When: Saturdays 12pm – 6pm and Sundays 2pm – 6pm.

Where: 1208 Surf Ave.

The museum’s post-Labor Day schedule is now in effect. Head to the Coney Island Museum to check out “Five Cents to Dreamland: A Trip to Coney Island,” an exhibit presented in conjunction with the New York Transit Museum to showcase historical collections. Plus, the museum is highlighting parts of its Permanent Collection.

Coney Island History Project

Where: 3059 West 12th St., at the entrance to Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park

The Coney Island History Project is open throughout the year for oral history interviews by appt. and on weekends for walking tours. The walking tours are $20 and reservations are required. Check out their eventbrite page for tickets.

Weekend rides

Luna Park remains open on weekends through the month of October. Plus, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park offers 21 rides — from the landmark Wonder Wheel to Spook-A-Rama and Stop-the-Zombies — on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-8 p.m., weather permitting, through October.

Luna Park’s Halloween Harvest

Check out this seasonal program every weekend from Sept 16 to Oct. 29. Activities include face painting, pony rides, and a pumpkin patch. The experience is included with the purchase of an all-day wristband.
