This weekend in Coney Island: YMCA events, centennial celebration, Kiwanis Club fundraiser, & more

It will be a chilly start to the weekend, with temperatures expected to dip on Friday. Here’s a guide complete with things to do as you prepare for the weekend.

YMCA events for kids

When: Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. 

Where: Coney Island YMCA

Saturday morning story time returns to Coney Island YMCA on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.. Sports Day with Kids Zone will follow at 1 p.m. Sports Day is free with a family Y membership. For more information on story time, click here; for more information on Sports Zone, click here.

Centennial celebration — 1208 Surf Ave.

When: Saturday at 7 p.m.

Where: 1208 Surf Ave.

Coney Island USA is celebrating the 100th birthday of its landmarked building at 1208 Surf Ave. by holding a Fall Gala at that location.

There will be hors d’oeurves, music, drinks, and “surprises,” tarot readings, a live demonstration, open bar, birthday cake, and more. Tickets are $100. To read more about the event, click here.

Coney Island Museum

When: Saturdays 12pm – 6pm and Sundays 2pm – 6pm.

Where: 1208 Surf Ave.

The museum’s post-Labor Day schedule is now in effect. Head to the Coney Island Museum to check out “Five Cents to Dreamland: A Trip to Coney Island,” an exhibit presented in conjunction with the New York Transit Museum to showcase historical collections. Plus, the museum is highlighting parts of its Permanent Collection.

Also at Coney Island USA, check out magic at noon on Sunday and the Bindlestiff Cavalcade of Youth at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Coney Island/Brighton Beach Kiwanis Club Fundraiser

When: Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Where: Tom’s Coney Island

The local Kiwanus Club will hold a fundraiser this weekend. Kiwanus Clubs are in more than 80 countries and are geared towards organizing local service projects and fundraising. According to Community Board 13, those who wish to purchase tickets can contact Joe at 917-282-9498.

Coney Island History Project

Where: 3059 West 12th St., at the entrance to Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park

The Coney Island History Project is open throughout the year for oral history interviews by appt. and on weekends for walking tours. The walking tours are $20 and reservations are required. Check out their eventbrite page for tickets.
