Coney Island this week: Job fair, Surf Playground visioning session, book event, and more

Are you ready for December? Here’s a complete rundown of key events happening in Coney Island throughout the final week of November and the first few days of December.

Surf Playground Visioning Session

When: Monday at 7 p.m.

Where: The Shirley Tanyhill School (2950 W 25th St, Brooklyn, NY 11224)

Local residents are invited to voice their opinion and share ideas for the future design of Surf Playground. If you cannot make the meeting, you can still submit your suggestions to or call 718-965-8907

Partnership for Parks: A night of sharing park and creek highlights

When: Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Where: MCU Park

Partnership for Parks is hosting an event to thank community members for caring for local areas such as Kaiser Park and the Coney Island Creek. Plus, highlights will be shared and there will be discussion on the progress still needed to be made. The event is free. Attendees are asked to enter from the double glass doors in the MCU Park parking lot.

Community Board 13 General Meeting

When: Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Where: Aquarium, Education Hall

Get involved and stay in-the-know when it comes to the most hyperlocal issues in the neighborhood. Topics covered at community board meetings range from zoning to construction plans to liquor licenses and beyond.

Community Hiring Events

When: Thursday at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Where: Coney Island Library

BK.1K: A Run For Hope & Happy 1 Hour

When: Saturday at noon

Where: Parachute Jump

The Coney Island Brewery is hosting the “BK.1K: A Run For Hope & Happy 1 Hour.” According to a Facebook post, the entry fee is $10 and will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The run begins at the Parachute Jump and ends at the brewery.

Book event

When: Saturday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Where: 1208 Surf Ave.

Doug Ross is unveiling his new book: “Coney Island, a black and white retrospective” at this free event. The book signing party will include a silent auction.

Coney Island Museum

When: Saturdays 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Where: 1208 Surf Ave.

The museum’s post-Labor Day schedule is now in effect. Head to the Coney Island Museum to check out “Five Cents to Dreamland: A Trip to Coney Island,” an exhibit presented in conjunction with the New York Transit Museum to showcase historical collections. Plus, the museum is highlighting parts of its Permanent Collection.

Coney Island History Project

Where: 3059 West 12th St., at the entrance to Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park

The Coney Island History Project is open throughout the year for oral history interviews by appt. and on weekends for walking tours. The walking tours are $20 and reservations are required. Check out their eventbrite page for tickets.
