The 114th Annual Coney Island Polar Bear Plunge is set to return on New Year’s Day — and there’s still time left to pre-register.
The Coney Island Polar Bear Club, which swims in the ocean weekly on Sundays from November until April, is continuing the longstanding New Year’s Day tradition with a focus on charity.
Although it is free to participate, those who attend are encouraged by the Polar Bear Club to donate towards Coney Island organizations.
Swimmers do need to register — and registering online comes with a requirement of a $25 donation. Participants can also register after 10 a.m. on the day of the event.
Those who plan on taking a frigid wintry dip should head to the boardwalk and Stillwell Ave., where the event will take place at 1 p.m. sharp. Swimmers are asked to arrive early.
Participants who donate at least $100 will receive a special edition pint glass and long-sleeve t-shirt and all registered attendees will also receive free admission to the aquarium.
The Department of Parks will offer changing facilities for swimmers.
