Coney Island This Week: Guest speaker, Housing Enrollment Event, and more

Check out the full slate of events in Coney Island during the second week of 2018. 

Street Closing Committee Meeting

When: Monday at 7 p.m.

Where: Community Board 13 office at 1201 Surf Avenue, 3rd Floor

General Body Meeting, The Coney Island Anti-Violence Collaborative

When: Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Where: Diploma Plus High 2865 W 19th Street

According to the Facebook event page, Dorsey Jones, a survivor of child sex trafficking who became an author, advocate, and juvenile probation officer, will be be a guest speaker.

Housing Enrollment Event

When: Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. (RSVP at 718-727-9406)

Where: St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 2801 West 8th Street

This housing enrollment event is sponsored by State Sen. Diane Savino

Coney Island Museum

When: Saturdays 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Where: 1208 Surf Ave.

The museum’s post-Labor Day schedule is in effect. Head to the Coney Island Museum to check out “Five Cents to Dreamland: A Trip to Coney Island,” an exhibit presented in conjunction with the New York Transit Museum to showcase historical collections. Plus, the museum is highlighting parts of its Permanent Collection.

Coney Island History Project

Where: 3059 West 12th St., at the entrance to Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park

The Coney Island History Project is open throughout the year for oral history interviews by appt. and on weekends for walking tours. The walking tours are $20 and reservations are required. Check out their eventbrite page for tickets.
